My favorite OB in the whole wide world always told me that he loved the 4 to 6-month stage. It was just his favorite. Well, Dr. Sawyer, I might have to agree with you! Six month olds really are the best!
Welcome, to Part 3 in this 10-part milestone series on 10 Can’t Miss Photos to Take at Every Stage. At the end of this post, you can find the Newborn and 3-Month “can’t miss photos”. Today, we are talking about six month olds. You know, those cute little sitters that have tons of personality but can’t usually crawl around yet and get into trouble. Yep, those 6-month olds!
(Want a printable checklist of EVERY SINGLE milestone to capture from Newborn to Age 5–100 milestones total–, click the image below!)
1. Sitting Up
Baby is often sitting on or around the 6-month age, sometimes all by themselves and sometimes propped. This is the age where you can finally put them down and they can sort of hang on their own (most of the time!) or play with toys. But! Normally they are not quite crawling or rolling strategically yet and getting themselves into trouble. If you have a early mover, heaven help you! 🙂
2. First Foods
So many foods to try in those first months of eating more than just baby milk! Some will be a hit…others, well, not so much. Capture those first bites, those first messes, and those first “YUCK” faces.
3. Crawling Pose
Not all babies are strong enough just yet to get on their hands and knees, but those that do might rock back and forth in “crawling pose” and often look pretty proud of themselves. Capture that look of baby pride!
4. Looking at Self in the Mirror
Babies in the 6-month old range start to recognize that there is another baby in the mirror. They may not yet know that baby is THEM, but they are sure interested in that little baby in the mirror.
5. Baby Laughs
If first smiles are the star of the 3-month age, then those initial belly laughs are certainly the star of the 6-month age! Giggles, oh my, how can anyone not smile when they year a baby laugh!?!?
6. Looking at Books
You may have been reading to your baby since before he was born, but now he is finally looking at the pages (or maybe chewing on them) and getting a little more involved in book reading. We love reading in our house and have certainly captured reading over the years, not just for our babies!
7. Playing with Toys
Six-month-olds are no longer just holding their toys but are able to “play” with them more now. Shaking, biting, throwing, reaching, and learning all the things.
8. First Teeth
After non-stop drool fest, baby finally gets her first tooth! Everyone is so excited (except maybe nursing mama), and that little tooth is the cutest! Make sure to capture that gummy little smile with the first little teeth popping through!
9. Brushing Teeth
First teeth means first toothbrushes! Don’t forget to take photos of your 6-month old brushing those brand new white little teeth!
10. Baths in the Bathtub
Baby transitions from an infant tub, maybe to a toddler tub or maybe all the way to a big tub. Either way, baths look different now. More fun (hopefully…all mine hated baths as infants) and certainly more splashy! Capture your tiny one getting so fresh and so clean, clean!
