My favorite of all sessions are in-home photography sessions, especially for families with a brand new tiny one. Most photographers you find will take your newborn photos in their studio. They will focus on posed images, props, and soft lovely light. With LORI•O•PHOTO, I like to capture natural newborn images right in the comfort of your home, focusing on connection, baby snuggles, and beauty in your own space.
Wondering why you would opt for an in-home session instead of photos in a studio? I want to share with you the BEST reasons to choose an in-home newborn photography session.
Getting Out of the House is HARD
Whether this is your first baby or sixth, getting out of the house with an infant is hard.
Maybe the weather is really hot (likely in Phoenix!) or really cold. Maybe your infant HATES the car seat. Maybe you just aren’t sure what you will need so you bring all the diapers and the wipes and the pacifiers and all the things. Maybe you are nursing and every outfit feels uncomfortable to manipulate.
When I come to you, you get to stay in the comfort of your own home without packing up that tiny guy. You don’t have to get her ready to leave the house (a simple white onesie or just a diaper will do). You don’t have to put him in the dreaded car seat.
COMFORT is King
Home is just without question more comfortable than a studio, no matter how comfortable the couch or cozy the space.
Feeding is easier because you are comfortable at home, whether bottle feeding and having bottles easily accessible or nursing and needing that perfect position to help her latch.
We all know that spit up, poop, and pee are inevitable with babies. Being at home means easy wardrobe changes for you, just in case. You can also touch up hair and makeup and get ready literally right up until we start shooting.
The WHOLE Family Counts
If this is your first baby, chances are you might have grandparents that would love to be part of the session (you may or may not agree 😊).
And if this not your first baby, you have siblings that you want to be part of the session. Kiddos, especially little kiddos, are more comfortable at home and likely to give more genuine interaction and smiles.
Perhaps you are less worried that your siblings be comfortable and more worried that they might go bazerko in a studio. 😊 Home is sometimes a better choice for the crazy ones, the shy ones, or the anxious ones too.
Pets Are Family, TOO
The pups, the kittens, the family turtle. Usually getting both a newborn and the family pet to a studio is pretty hard work, so families just elect to leave Fido out of the photos. A lot of the time, though, Rex was your first baby and getting to include him in your first photos as a family is super important. Hello, in home session!
Real Life Captured BEAUTIFULLY
I love that an in-home newborn session allows us to capture some real-life moments. Diaper changes, feedings, baby’s first bath, snuggles in your bed, kisses from Fido. These are not images that you will get in a studio, and your cell phone photos of these moments just won’t be the same.
Home is Where the HEART Is
When you look back at your most favorite photos, either of you or of your parents or grandparents, are they in a studio? Most of you will say no. They are the loving, connected photos. They are the photos in grandma’s house where you can see the plastic covered couch or the shag carpet or the puke green stove and refrigerator set. Having photos in your home is almost like creating a time capsule of your house.
You may not live here forever, but you children’s memories will be tied to this space. Why not have gorgeous photos taken to help them memorialize it?
You Worked REALLY Hard on That Nursery!
Let’s be serious. You spent MONTHS on your gorgeous nursery. Maybe you had help from a designer. Maybe you painstakingly chose every doll and every piece of art. Maybe you painted something special just for him. Maybe grandma made all the bedding just for her. It is a SPECIAL place.
Let’s get photos in that beauty!
So, are you in? Let’s talk about an in-home newborn photography session!
